Red Mass Award Descriptions

St. Thomas More Award

The Saint Thomas More Award is presented annually to a member of the legal profession whose accomplishments in some way represent the principles and ideals of St. Thomas More. The criteria for selection are listed below:

  • Is a practicing Catholic, involved in his or her parish and a ministry of the Church;
  • Displays a commitment to Catholic Social Teaching as borne out in his/her daily living;
  • Promotes the application of Christian principles to modern problems, especially

insofar as they are connected with the law;

  • Promotes the social, intellectual, and spiritual welfare of the people served through his/her discipline;
  • Offers personal sacrifice for the good of the community;
  • Helps the local Church and persons responsible for its institutions;
  • Encourages all Catholic members of the bar to know and live their faith fully, both

in private and in public, by their daily example through word and deed.

St. Martin De Porres Award

St. Martin de Porres, patron saint of social justice, devoted his life to the Corporal Works of Mercy through the care of the sick and injured to the selfless service of others. The St. Martin de Porres Award is given to an organization which demonstrates unbounded and helpful charity offering hope to those in need determined by the following criteria:

  • Promotes understanding and respect;
  • Extends friendship to all;
  • Works and prays for peace;
  • Enhances daily living through education, prayer, fellowship, and example;
  • Reaches out and embraces all cultures within local community.

Scholarship Award

The Catholic Lawyers Guild of Central Florida gave out its first scholarship award on April 29th at Bishop Moore High School. Our $500 award went to senior Max Kucera for his essay entitled “Call for Mercy”.  Congratulations to Max Kucera on the award!
